I’ve written about my thoughts on naturist photos before, perhaps unsurprisingly in the post entitled “Naturist Photos.” Clearly my cleverness knows no bounds! I’ve always been a fan of capturing life memories along the way. As a teen, I saved up and bought a Nikon 35mm SLR and an accompanying group of lenses. Friends always knew that I’d have my camera bag in tow to most any event we went to. Always looking for that perfect shot. Always wanting to capture the moment. That’s been the case throughout my life.
While my shutterbug and naturist hobbies were completely unrelated, the thought admittedly crossed my mind — “what if….”. Having my own collection of photos of my early naturist experiences would have been something I would have loved. But in those days, the challenge of developing nudes from film was a definite obstacle, and not one I took on. The advent of digital media, later in life, and the ability to capture, save, and view your own photos was a complete game changer for naturists.
Accordingly, as I’ve experienced different aspects of naturism, some aptly called adventures, some more or less just experiences, I’ve always been apt to try to capture the moment, for my own personal naturist posterity. I love going back to look at older naturist photos, just as I do non-naturist ones, and recall the experience, re-live the moment to a certain degree.
I suspect most every naturist has been there —crouched on a hiking trail, secluded beach, backyard naked safe zone, or maybe even your kitchen, trying to set up your camera/phone for the ultimate naturist selfie. Right?! You know what I’m talking about. One of my first was during a hike that turned into a spontaneous nude hike. I look back at the photo now and have a good laugh, remembering how exhilarating it was, how I struggled setting up the timer, how many failed selfies I had before I got the good one, and my near spill down the slope as I scrambled to my spot before the timer elapsed. From a distance, I must have been a sight! All good fun.
Now, nude personal photos can be one thing, but, for the gents in the crowd, add in an occasional, unintentional, non-sexual (yep…it’s a real thing) erection and suddenly they become pornographic to some. Consequently I attempted to only capture moments of “flaccidicity”, if that is a word. This was sometimes quite challenging, not to mention tedious and frustrating. It was my spouse who finally just said, “who cares. If we don’t mind in the moment, why would we mind in a photo? These pictures are for us.” That destigmatizing and shame removing advice helped me get back to seeing my naturist photos for what they were — opportunities taken, where I embraced life and created cherished memories.
One of the many benefits of creating and maintaining such naturist memories, whether through photos, words, or a combination, is that they inspire the creation of more naturist experiences and adventures. I’ve found myself out doing something and suddenly had the idea — “ooh, hey…might be fun to do this nude, and capture the moment.” Similarly, seeing other’s naturist photos, professional or candid, can also inspire me to seek out similar naturist experiences.
As they saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. I’d say that photos, naturist or otherwise, produce a thousand opportunities, experiences, and memories.
Good for you! It is so good to admit and be open to the realities of nature. Your wife is to be commended for her attitude about natural occurrences. Your truthfulness is like a breath of fresh air.
